The team at WR Partners is honoured to sponsor Disabled Adventurer Darren Edwards, who will embark on the gruelling 777 World Marathon Challenge to raise funds for the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team.

Darren's story is truly inspiring. In August 2016, Darren was involved in a near-fatal climbing accident; he fell 30ft during a rock-climbing expedition, which left him paralysed from the chest down. Since that day, Darren has persevered and pushed through many physical and mental boundaries.

The World Marathon Challenge is both a logistical and physical challenge as competitors run 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days. This challenge has never been attempted by anyone with a physical disability.

Starting on the 31st January, Darren will run the standard 42.2km marathon in Antarctica before travelling to Africa, Australia, Asia, Europe, South America and finishing in North America.

In April of this year, Darren gave an inspiring talk at the WR Partners annual conference. His incredible story of overcoming adversity motivated and encouraged the team to think differently when facing challenges.

Darren explains, "I want to show others that regardless of the challenges they face in life, it is so important that we make that commitment to ourselves not to be beaten, not to give up, and to emerge stronger for having lived through those moments of challenge.

Training has been tough. I've pushed myself to greater and greater distances in all conditions. I have embodied the mindset of 'adapt and overcome to find the right approach to successfully completing each marathon (as well as managing the other aspects of my disability).

I have been given the opportunity to raise money for a charity very close to my heart: the Armed Forces Para-Snowsports Team (AFPST). I am aiming to raise funds to pay for 25 newly injured servicemen/women to learn to ski for the first time in 2023.

If we can raise £100,000 for the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team we can pay for 20 injured/wounded veterans to experience the freedom of alpine/nordic skiing (as well as snowboarding) at the annual AFPST training camp in 2023. £100,000 would fund the entire project."

Helen Spencer, said, "I have been blown away by Darren's resilience many times, and I was honoured to be considered as a headline sponsor for his next challenge, The World Marathon Challenge!

“Darren presented an insightful and inspirational session at our conference and made a real impact on the team. With an incredible story of resilience and the power of positive thinking and action, Darren shared his approach to life in a way that encourages us all to believe that we can cope with the challenges of everyday life.

"Over the last few years, the World has experienced an incredible amount of disruption and change, meaning resilience has become an essential life skill for everyone. A huge driver for me wanting to sponsor Darren was to help share his remarkable story with our clients and network."
